Joeblow69 Interviews Billy Wild
February, 2003
So what made you decide to get into the porn business?
I've always been a bit of an exhibitionist. I love sex, and I always thought it would be fun to do porn. It had always been a fantasy of mine.
How did you get your start?
I answered an ad in the Bay Area Reporter.
Your first films were with the San Francisco Fetish Factory, right? How were they to work with?
Yes, I've done quite a few movies for them. They're a lot of fun to work for! I was one of their first models when they started out, I've also now done some editing and producing for them.
Your first Titan movie was their "amateur-orgy" movie, Manplay 1. How was that?
That was a great shoot for me! I was excited to work for Titan, and it ended up being really hot! I got to show them how versatile I can be! Plus I like group sex!
Do they just let all the models just go at it, or do they pick who has sex with whom and in which positions?
It's pretty much a free-for-all. They put you in a room and you just go for it. They may have you repeat something if they didn't get it on camera the first time, but there is very little direction. They do rotate the guys around, so you're usually not all on the set at once.
You've done a lot of production work and editing for Titan (as well as Factory Video)... was that something you just picked up, or did you have any formal training?
I haven't done any editing for Titan, just Factory Video, but I have done quite a bit of production work with Titan. I had always been fascinated with how movies are made, and photography in general, and got the opportunity to help out when we were filming Trespass. We shot it on location at a ranch (Temptation Ranch, there's a link on my site www.billywild.com ) in San Luis Obispo, and when we weren't filming my scenes, I asked if I could help out. Before I knew it, I was working full time for them! I was the production assistant and still photographer for a little over a year. I learned quite a bit from that experience! They wanted me to stop modeling, though, and I wasn't ready to give that up yet. They also failed to honor my exclusive contract, but that is another story….
Why did Titan want you to quit modeling?
I think Bruce Cam (one of the owners, the one with the largest share) thought that I wouldn't be able concentrate on my main responsibilities as a production assistant and still photographer. I enjoy being in front of the camera as well, that's why I got into the business! Making me give that up probably guaranteed that I wouldn't stay there.
Is that what caused your falling out with them?
That and the fact that they failed to live up to their end of my exclusive contract.
What's the story behind your exclusive contract with them?
When I signed my contract, I was told that I would be promoted more as an exclusive, the main reason I signed, and that they would set me up with a magazine photo shoot. I was never promoted. In fact, several times the art director tried putting me on ads or box covers, and Bruce would have me pulled off every time! I was told I was "un-marketable". The magazine photo shoot never happened either.
What made you decide to be the star of Treasure Island's bareback gangbang movie Riding Billy Wild?
Actually, that was kind of a low point in my life. I wasn't feeling too good about myself when I left Titan, and was feeling fairly self-destructive. I don't regret what I did, but probably wouldn't do it again! I do bareback in my personal life, but I feel that the producers of bareback movies aren't doing enough to point out the dangers of bareback sex. I am already positive, so there was not much risk for me. Anyway, I applied on the Treasure Island website, and they asked me if I wanted to do a gangbang in Chicago for IML. I said yes….
Treasure Island responds to this interview in the forum
Are you open about your HIV status?
Yes, I am positive. I really think this should have been mentioned at the beginning of the movie. I am not happy with them!
Was that your first gangbang? You certainly took on a lot of very big cocks (especially Nameless guy #2!)
Yes, it was my first gangbang, and yes, there were some very big dicks there! I do love a challenge, though!
Was that movie shot over a couple of days, or was it all one big hot, horny afternoon?
No, it was shot in several days.
Were you sore for a while afterwards?
Yes, some of those guys, like Matt Sizemore, were pretty relentless!
On the Riding Billy Wild DVD, there's some footage of you severely tied up at some convention where all sorts of strangers came up and fondled you. Was that at IML too? What was that like? Are you normally into that type of submissive bondage? How long did they leave you tied up like that?
Yes, that was at the leather market place. There were tons of booths with different products and leather to check out. I really get in to bondage, and it was kinda hot having people touching me and not being able to do anything about it! I'm pretty sure I had a full-on stiffy by the time they took me down! LOL! I was strapped on the board for about half an hour… It was hot! I want one!
What did the guys at Titan think about you appearing in a bareback movie?
I'm sure they didn't like it at all! The only person I talk to at Titan anymore, Ryan Stuart, the casting director, no longer works there.
Have you found that it's more difficult to get work at the bigger studios now that you've been in a bareback movie? I remember hearing Chi Chi saying she wouldn't work with anyone who has done that.
Yes, it has been difficult. I did manage to land the lead role in two new Joe Gage movies produced by MSR that are due out in Spring and Summer. I think Chi Chi and Chris Ward and most of those guys are hypocrites. They choose not to acknowledge that Michael Brandon did a movie for Treasure Island as well, yet he was voted "Porn Star of the Year" and has since done several hundred movies for several studios. Matt Sizemore, who was in Riding Billy Wild is in one of Raging Stallion's new films "Downright Dangerous". Maybe they think that it isn't a top's responsibility to practice safe sex, I personally think that is extremely hypocritical!
Do you get the impression it's the studios who are keeping their performers from making bareback porn? In other words, are the guys that you've worked with willing to do it, but afraid of getting blackballed from all the big studios?
Yes, the studios have a lot of leverage, if you want to work, you have to do what they say.
What do you say to those critics who say that bareback movies glamorize unsafe behavior?
Like I said earlier, I don't think that the producers of bareback movies aren't doing enough to point out the dangers of bareback sex. They fail to mention that the bottom is (at least in my case) positive, and that the risk to him is minimal. At least that's what I think….
Even though you are already positive, isn't it still possible to get re-infected with a more drug resistant strain of the virus? You don't worry about that at all?
Not really. I have been positive for several years (8+) and I take my meds regularly. My numbers (t-cells and viral load) have stayed at pretty much the same level for the past 3 years. I haven't been "re-infected" and my meds are still working pretty good. No, I don't really worry about it.
Do you think it's porn's responsibility to teach safe behavior? It's interesting that there isn't even a "you really should use condoms" disclaimer at the beginning of Riding Billy Wild.
Quite frankly, I think we are all grown adults, and if you are negative and think that you won't contract HIV from unsafe sex, then you probably deserve what you get! That is just foolish!! Like I said earlier, Treasure Island and the other BB studios should really have a disclaimer before their movies! I think it is incredibly irresponsible of them. Then again, they are an incredibly unprofessional "studio"! I wouldn't work for them again!
Why do you say that Treasure Island are unprofessional? Were there problems on the set?
By unprofessional, I mean they have no formal training, and they shoot guerilla-style. There were times in Chicago where I was sure we'd get kicked out of the hotel! They have little experience, and we kind of made it up as we went.
Do you have any idea what percentage of your co-stars in Riding Billy Wild may have been HIV+?
I don't. I go into any sexual encounter, even in my personal life, with the assumption that everyone is positive. I think everyone should, that is the only way to prevent yourself from becoming positive. Unfortunately for me, I didn't always think that way, and that is why I am positive now! If you don't want HIV, WRAP THAT RASCAL!!
Does Treasure Island do any kind of HIV testing before they do a shoot?
No.
Do you think we'll start seeing bareback porn from the mainstream studios sometime in the future?
Probably not until there is a cure.
Even some of the bigger studios have started slipping in a few oral cumshots here and there (and those used to be totally taboo). And now you're doing videos again for Factory Video. They've always had a pro-cum-eating policy... are they moving to bareback now too?
All the medical data, at least from what I have been told, says that it is very hard to transmit HIV orally, they have said that for a long time, and that is why Factory Videos has always allowed oral cumshots. I talk with the owners frequently, and they have no plans on moving over to BB.
There's been a number of big name stars moving over to bareback lately (Matt Sizemore, Jeff Palmer, you...) Do you think this is a start of a trend, and we'll be seeing more of our favorite guys getting plugged bareback?
I can't really say, that is a choice that they make themselves. I wont be doing any more!
Tell me a little bit about WayOuttaLine.com...
WayOuttaLine.com is a site I have started with my boyfriend. I would like to start making my own movies, and when I left CNE Media (buttmachineboys.com, malewank.com) they gave me the rights to all of the malewank.com content. I was able to start up my own site with that, and will be making some VHS tapes with some of that content. I hope to start shooting some new content soon! Things have been slow-going though! We don't re-bill, so you can check out the site and not be worried about recurring charges! My new Factory Videos movie is up now, except they are extended versions of the scenes you will see on the actual VHS or DVD. Due to time constraints, they had to chop some of the scenes down some to get it all on the VHS/DVD. Check it out!
Is your porn career and your website a full time job for you, or is it a side project?
Definitely a full time job!
What can you tell us about your upcoming movies with MSR? Who were your co-stars?
I can tell you that they were both directed by Joe Gage, who was wonderful to work with! I've always enjoyed his work, especially his older stuff, so I was really excited about the projects! I ended up getting the lead role in both movies! I can also tell you that Nick Capra fucks me in one movie, and Josh Kole gives it to me in the other one! I enjoyed working with both of them!
Do you have a favorite director to work with?
Joe Gage was great to work with! Brian Mills at Titan was fun to work with also, and Brad Austin at Catalina, and I also enjoy working with Scott Morris at Factory Videos.
Who has been your favorite guy to work with?
I would have to say, my favorite scene to shoot was in "Holler", Titan Media. Both Sam Ford and Leo Tanner were great to work with and they are both very much my type!! It was a hot fucking scene! I still pop that movie in when I want to get off quickly, which is funny, because I usually don't like watching the stuff I am in! I'm my own worst critic!
Was there ever a guy that you just didn't get along with at all?
Bruce Cam. Other than him, everyone else I have worked with has been great! I can't think of any models that I didn't get along with. They are all pretty down-to-earth guys!
Anyone out there that you'd love to star in a scene with?
I've always had a thing for Colton Ford! He is sooo my type, it's not even funny! I have several of his movies, and always watch them! His BF, Blake Harper, isn't bad either! Aiden Shaw and Zack Spears are also favorites of mine!
When you are about to do a scene, do you prefer to meet up with your co-star and "get to know then" a bit before the shoot, or is it better to just go into it blind?
I like going in blind. Sex with strangers is hot! It's exciting not knowing what to expect, plus the camera catches that initial spark that is sometimes hard to re-create! Most companies try hard to pair you up with guys that are your type, and visa-versa, because they know you'll get in to it more, and give a better performance.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to get into the business?
If you want to do any mainstream work, don't do bareback! And I wouldn't recommend signing an exclusive contract. You'll probably get screwed, especially if it's with Titan, that was my experience anyway! And you really don't need an Agent. In fact, something that Ryan Stuart from Titan always said to me, "if you have an agent, you probably deserve one!"
I see you do escort work too... is there a particular region of the US you work out of? How should people contact you if they want to schedule some "Billy-time"?
Yes, I do. I live in San Francisco, but am available for travel as well. You can contact me thru my website, www.billywild.com . All my contact info is on the escort page, www.billywild.com/escort.html.
You will also find lots of pictures, in fact I just did a photo shoot for Joseph Domingo ( www.josephdomingo.com ), a photographer/fashion designer here in San Francisco. Those pictures should be up soon. They turned out great, from what I have seen so far! I will probably be doing more work with him in the future....
Big thanks to JoeBlow69 and Billy Wild for this candid interview!
